  • Girl time
  • Sweat clothes.  I don't care how unattractive they are, they are COMFY!  And WARM!
  • Speaking of warmth....  I <3 my bath tub.  It keeps me warm.
  • Facebook.  That's weird, isn't it?  It just makes staying in touch 1000 times easier than it used to be.
Four Things I Can't Stop Thinking About:
  • How did no one tell me I completely missed this section last week?
  • We purchased Belle's new travel bag yesterday- a post on that will come later.
  • Camping this upcoming weekend in Yosemite with a great group of people.
  • Bringing Belle camping for the first time ever, and it might snow!
Three Things I Want To Accomplish This Week:
  • Have all laundry done and house cleaned by Friday.  (You know, all that fun weekly stuff.)
  • Buy ink.
  • Buy Belle boots.  (Sorry I talk about her so much, I happen to love her in case you can't tell.)
Two Things I Am Working To Be Positive About:
  • Once again.... I can't think of anything.  Everything is very matter of fact in my life I guess.
One Random Thing:
  • Who knows the question for the answer, "Hot pink Ford truck."

3.08.2011

I didn't mean to be a creep.

In 2009, right after Carl and I got married, I took a class that I had wanted to take for as long as I could remember.  Sign language.  I had wanted to learn sign language forever, but it was just never in the cards for me to take it.  Year after year in college, I tried and tried to get into a class, but it just never happened.  Classes filled up, schedules were too tight, you name it.  So, in 2009 I was finally able to take this class that I had dreamt of.  And I soaked it in.  Every minute of it.  I adored it.  The language is absolutely beautiful.

Every single following semester, I did my best to be accepted in to ASL level 2.  However, the professor at UF is nationally known (Dr. Sign... I think I've mentioned him here before...) and it was IMPOSSIBLE to get in his class if he didn't know you personally!  I was really bummed out, but I figured I'd just finish my degree and work on sign language after I graduated.

Well, after I graduated, I up and moved across the country.  I've been trying to find signing classes that I could enroll in, but I couldn't find any that weren't on a specific degree tract.  Then, I looked into community ed.  No luck there, either.

Hmm... where could I go to learn sign language??  A deaf person!  But wait, I don't know any deaf people.  Dangit.  Where else could I go?  A sign language group!  I investigated, and once again I hit a dead end.  There were no sign language groups within 200 miles of Turlock (that I could find, at least.)

I had one last option.  Find a church that had a service for deaf individuals to worship, and study with a person there, IF he or she was willing.  After even more googling, I found an entire deaf church in Modesto (the next town over.)  I looked up that church's website and couldn't find it!  Dang it!! Yet another dead end!  I did, however, find a woman's myspace page where she mentioned that she attended that church because she loves sign language even though she was not deaf.  I quickly tried to send her a message on myspace but it required me to log in, and I couldn't figure out my old info.

Overly determined, I looked at her name and I copy and pasted it into the facebook search.  Creepy?  Yes, I know.  I tried not to be.  I even apologize profusely in my message I wound up sending her for appearing creepy.  So, she wrote me back and said she would try to get me some phone numbers.  I am beyond excited!!!!  I might finally be able to learn sign language.  Oh what a joy it would be for me!!!!!  I am just dying to get past level one and be able to really communicate.

I'm so excited.  I really hope this comes through and everything works out.
In my countdown post yesterday, I mentioned being thankful for Melanie not being creeped out.
This was what I meant.

I am beyond excited and I hope and pray this will come through!  Wish me luck!

Countdown

Five Things I Am Thankful For:
  • Our new camera.  I purchased the exact same one that I had (that just died) and I'm happy we have a way to capture our memories again.
  • Melanie not being creeped out.  (A post will come regarding this issue later...)
  • USPS (I know, sounds silly... but I love getting cards and letters in the mail!)
  • Emily!  (Hi Emily, if you happen to be reading this!) I'm thankful that there is someone in Turlock that I can trust to watch my little Belle while we go to the mountains next weekend.  Belle will even have two friends to play with (Jasmine and Buster) and I'm thankful they all get along.
  • Websites that work.  I'm beyond frustrated with trying to pay bills online when company websites do not properly work.  It's like they don't even want our money.
Three Things I Want To Accomplish This Week:
  • Pictures of our home.  People have been asking, and I just haven't gotten around to it yet!
  • Learn to take pictures in manual mode on my camera.
  • File my whopping stack of papers that came in the mail a few days ago.
Two Things I Am Working To Be Positive About:
  • Jeeze, I can't even think of one.  Is that good or bad?  I feel positive and upbeat about everything goin on in my life. I guess that's a good thing.
One Random Thing:
  • This week is gonna drag by... we have great plans this weekend!  Mountain trip with friends, dinner with friends, and church as usual.  Life is GOOD!

2.28.2011

Countdown

Five Things I Am Thankful For:
  • Our new church family!  We placed membership yesterday and it feels so wonderful to be back with a great group of people.
  • A fridge that works.  (Last week it went out and we lost waaaay to many groceries.  This week we're fully restocked.)
  • Our location.  There's so much to do within a couple of hours of our new home!
  • Austin meeting new friends at church that are good kids.
  • Warm welcomes from new friends and neighbors.
Four Things I Can't Stop Thinking About:
  • My trip home that is coming up. (Yep, still the same as last week!)
  • FLYING WITH BELLE.  AAAAAAH!!!
  • All the errands I have to run today.
  • Our trip coming up next weekend, TO THE MOUNTAINS!
Three Things I Want To Accomplish This Week:
  • Every bit of laundry.  It's neverending and I want to have at least one day where I don't have a thing to wash.
  • Clean my car out.  It's getting messy and I can hear my mom's voice in the back of my head telling me to clean it! (Love you mom!)
  • Purchase and install the wall mount for our TV so we can get it off of our fireplace.  Nope, we still haven't done that.
Two Things I Am Working To Be Positive About:
  • My voice.  People cannot hear me half the time, and I am talking as loud as I possibly can.  I wind up with my throat muscles feeling tired after trying to talk loudly when I'm out with people.
  • Belle will learn how to walk on a leash by my side instead of pulling.  It's a process, but we'll get there.
One Random Thing:
  • So.... Belle has been bringing me her treasured bones lately.  Not the every day run of the mill bones, but the ones that she truly loves and tries to keep hidden from everyone in the house.  She brings them to me and I'm pretty sure they are a gift from her.  If I try to give it back to her, her ears go down and she looks offended.  I asked Carl what I'm supposed to do with the bone and he simply said, "Start eatin'."

2.21.2011

Countdown

Five Things I Am Thankful For:
  • The sweet card and letter my husband gave me for Valentine's Day.
  • The beautiful weather here in the valley.
  • You!  Thank you for reading!
  • Belle's cuddles since she got a haircut.  Three in the bed makes it a little difficult to sleep, but how she curls up under my chin is worth it.
  • I have a phone that I can actually talk on, so I get to catch up with my friends back home.
Four Things I Can't Stop Thinking About:
  • My trip home that is coming up.
  • Sammy is a year old now, and I SWEAR it was just yesterday that sweet baby was born.
  • My sweet Georgia baby, I don't want her to forget me being so far away.
  • Potential jobs.  I've been on the hunt, and I hope I find a job soon.
Three Things I Want To Accomplish This Week:
  • Settle down into a church.  We're having a heckuva time trying to decide which one to go to.
  • Put pictures in my empty frames.  Seriously, they have been empty for over a year.  Ridiculous.
  • Purchase and install the wall mount for our TV so we can get it off of our fireplace.
Two Things I Am Working To Be Positive About:
  • The fact that I require more sleep than the others in my household.  I don't know why it is, but I'm going my best to just accept it.  I already go to bed at 9:30 every night and comfortably sleep till 8 when my alarm goes off.
  • We have tile kitchen counters.  I do not understand why anyone would make their counters made of tile.  Because it's cheap?  Maybe.  I don't know, but I do know that grout is a bear to clean and I'm constantly lysoling the kitchen (especially after cooking meats!).
One Random Thing:
  • This wasn't my idea, the whole countdown thing.  I jumped on he bandwagon from Lori.  Thanks for the idea, Lori!

Good news!

Ya know those happy endings that always take place in movies, but don't really seem to in real life?

Well guess what.

Remember my old friend, Buddy who has been residing at the vet's office in my hometown?

Well, if you don't remember him, you can read about his story here.

Thanks to my dad, I now have an update on him.

Buddy, who lived at the vet's office for about 2 months, now has a sign at the vet's office that says he has a forever home.  His forever home provides him with a huge yard to run in, other dogs to play with, and kids that love him!  How exciting!

How incredible is that!  I am so so thankful that Buddy has a forever home now.  I really got attached to him, and if it weren't for his size, he just might be here with me now.  I never thought he would find a home, or a family that loved him like I did in the short hour that I spent with him, but I certainly do believe he has found that and so much more, now.

Not only does Buddy have a loving family now, but he also saved a life when he was in the vet's office.  A puppy had to have a blood transfusion, and if it weren't for Buddy, the pup would've died.  How amazing.  The little sandy homely looking dog I picked up on the side of the road not only saved a life, but wound up having a happily ever after story of his own.  That's my kind of fairy tale!

My Moe's Fiasco

I have to warn you by telling you this post is incredibly boring.  Like, it's really...really... boring.  I just had to vent.  You don't have to read it.  If you continue, don't say I didn't warn you.  And obviously, I was not asked to write a review for the restaurant mentioned in this post.  So, here it goes.

Last week, I had the pleasant surprise of the opportunity for extra credit in my audiometry class.  Extra credit is few and far between, so whatever it was going to be, I was on it.  It was easy, all I had to do was bring a yellow ticket to Moe's Southwest Grill and show my receipt to my teacher.  The yellow ticket allowed Moe's to donate $1 of my sale to the audiology foundation.  Pretty easy extra credit, eh?  Yeah, that's what I thought.

Here's the thing though.  I can't stand Moe's.  I don't like the food.  I don't like the noise in the restaurant.  And I sure as heck don't like that they yell when you walk in.  And when every person behind you walks in.  It gets old to me, fast.  Really fast.  But, for extra credit, I will do it *sigh*.

But wait, that's not all (say that in your best game show voice)- if I went to that specific Moe's with my yellow ticket, I could get three points for extra credit for me, and one point for every other person I brought with me (up to five points).  Score!  I'll bring Carl and Austin.  And then Forrest came over.  So, he would be joining us, too.

We get to Moe's and the noise of the place started driving me nuts when I was only in there for about 2 minutes.  I was searching over the menu trying to find something I would like, and I decided to ask for a bean burrito, even though I didn't see it on the menu.  "No problem," the guy told me.  It came time to put everything on the burrito, and he asked what type of bean I wanted.  "Refried, please."

At this point, you'd think the nice guy would've told me that they do not have refried beans.  But, no.  What'd he do?  "Okay.  Would you like sour cream or guacamole?"  I got both.  I figured the beans were coming later.  Then, he wrapped up my burrito.  With sour cream and guacamole.  And nothing else.

"Umm.. I ordered a bean burrito....."

"Yeah but you wanted refried beans."

"That's correct."  I was confused.

"We don't have them."  He continued wrapping up my "burrito."

"I'm sorry, but I don't want a burrito with just guacamole and sour cream.  Crazy, I know.  Go ahead and put some sort bean in there."  And so he did.

Then, I was helping Forrest order and the guy could barely hear Forrest over the counter.  That was certainly understandable because Forrest is little, and the counters are tall, and the people behind the counter ARE YELLING EVERY 5 SECONDS!  "Forrest, what type of meat do you want?"  I asked.

He asked for beef.  I looked at the guy behind the counter and said, "He'd like beef."

He took a nice scoop of beef when Forrest shouted, "WAAAIT!"  I bent town to Forrest and I asked what meat he preferred.  "That one."  He was pointing at the chicken.

"I'm sorry, Forrest would like the chicken."  The guy took a nice scoop of the chicken, and wouldn't you know it....

"WAAAIT!!!"

Once again, I bent down so as to not yell (not that I could if I wanted to), and I asked Forrest again what type of meat he wanted.  To make a long story short, this is how the order went.

Beef.  Chicken.  Pork.  Do you have turkey?  Ok chicken.  No wait, pork.  No...No, wait.  Beef.

So, we finally have all of our food, and we go sit down at the table.  I'm hoping my burrito is going to be really good, but I wasn't necessarily holding my breath.  As I sat down, I reached my hand in my pocket and I felt the yellow ticket.  Shoot.  Now this meal didn't count because the ticket wasn't handed over at the time of purchase.  Ugggh!  I took the ticket out of my pocket and as I tried to bring it up front anyway, I realized I was at the wrong Moe's.  The wrong Moe's.  Seriously?

Five points is a lot to give up, so we ended up driving across town to the other Moe's and I purchased three drinks for three different people in the restaurant so that I could get my darn extra credit.  I want those five points, dang it.  Carl and I had enough soda already, and the boys certainly didn't need any more sugar, so I gave the cups to some random people in the restaurant.  Two of which were girls in my class that just ordered water, and the other one was the guy behind me in line who thought I was pretty darn cool for buying him a drink.  (I actually had Carl ask to buy him a drink so he didn't think I was trying to flirt with him..... you know, "Hey, can I buy you a drink?" At a mexican grill instead of a bar.  )

Yeah.  That was my night.  Thanks for letting me vent.

A New Friend

Well, I'm a little late blogging today.  Want to know why?  It was a very eventful day.  Indeed, a very eventful day.

You see, I was sitting in class on campus when all of the sudden, the power went out.  Hmm... okay.  Class dismissed.  After exiting the building in the thunderstorm, we learned the entire campus and nearby hospitals were out of power as well!  Wow!  This is as exciting as I like it to get when I'm at school.  Classes were cancelled for the rest of the day, so I was of course extremely happy about this.

I decided to leave campus and head over to my parents house, even though they weren't home.  I was going to go over there and hang out at their house and wait for them to get there, and I'd get to spend some time with Belle and Mitzi (my pup and theirs), while also hopefully meeting their new next-door neighbor (more on that later).

When I went to get on the interstate, a police officer directed me in another direction, not allowing me to get on the interstate.  I was born and raised in these parts of Florida, so back roads were my best friend.  No problemo.  As I pulled up to the stoplight (where the cop was) it turned red.  What did I do?  I stopped of course.  What I didn't expect was this: the cop to yell at me!  He bent down so he could see in my car and yelled "GO!" so I looked at the light, looked back at him, and he flagged me to move on, with an angry look on his face.  I slowly went through the red light, only to see all of the cars behind me completely stopped, and cars coming at me from other angles because of other officers directing them!  Thankfully, there weren't any close calls and I made it out just fine, knowing that the officer had a little hiccup in his planning.  As I got down the hill, all of the cars were coming to a slow down.  Traffic, traffic.  I slowly made my way over the hill and I saw a dog run in between cars.  Oh my gosh!

Here's what's interesting to me: lately I have had the feeling that I was going to find an animal on the side of the road, and it was my job to rescue it.  I brushed the feeling off because as much of an animal lover as I am, I was always cautious helping strays/ lost animals because of their tempers and/ or diseases.  But this guy was different.  I immediately pulled over into an abandoned parking lot.  Cars were backed up on my side of the street, so I figured if something were to happen to me, there would be plenty of people to call the ambulance for me.  (Am I too paranoid?)  I was trying to decide if I should help this poor dog or not, who somehow had managed to not get hit by a car, yet.  As I was sitting there trying to decide, he came up to my car and sat outside of my window.  He sat there and stared at me.  Break. my. heart.  I just knew this boy was a sweetheart when those eyes made contact with mine.

I got out of my car, still in the pouring rain and I bent down for the boy to come to me.  He came over, with his tail down but slightly wagging as if he were afraid but wanting someone to trust.  I went and cleared out my trunk (I drive an SUV) and I patted the back of it for him to jump in.  He looked at me as though he was always taught to not take rides with strangers, and then ever so hesitantly put his front feet on the back of my SUV.  "C'mon boy, hop up..."  I kept trying to coax him.  There he stood, on his hind legs, just looking at me.  I looked him over and noticed a good size hole in his ear like he had been either attacked by a larger animal or shot with a BB gun.  Again, break. my. heart.

He stood there for another few seconds and I kept offering him a seat in my car.  He looked up at me as if to say, "I want to, but I can't."  (Yes, I speak doggy.  Don't you?)  So, I gently slid my hand down his back and under his stomach to give him a boost into my car.  He didn't seem tense, and he didn't make any signs of fear or threat toward me, so I helped him in.  He quickly laid down and closed his eyes.  Yet again, my heart.  What a sweet sweet boy.

I got in my car and started driving down the road.  I called my vet who has always taken care of my own babies and asked if they can help me with him.  They said that I would have to be financially responsible for him, but I told them there was just no way that I could do that right now.  I'm a student and we're living off of one income right now.  I informed my vet that this guy was melting my heart and if I could please bring him to them to make sure he's okay, I'd do my best to find either his owner, or a new one for him.  They agreed that they would take him for me.

The whole way in the car, I would look in my rearview mirror and see this:
From Something That We Do
Excuse the mess in my backseat, everything that was in my trunk had to come forward.

When we arrived to the vet's office, my new pal hopped out of my car and walked with me as I called him.  I opened the door to the vet's office for him and he halted.  Froze in his tracks.  Not gonna budge.  No, sir, not him.  Gonna stay right where he was.  I quickly grabbed his collar and hollered for some assistance in the vet's office.  A guy popped his head around the corner and asked if I was okay.  I told him that I was indeed okay, but this dog, who did not belong to me, would not walk in with me.  He chuckled.  The man was very quick to help and told me it was very nice to stop to save a life.  As me and my new friend walked in, we were met with a bunch of people asking us questions.  "Where did you find him?  Is he injured?  Will you pay for him?  What do you want us to do with him?  Will you come pick him up?......"  I answered all of their questions and then asked if I could call and check on him to see if they were able to find an owner.

Of course, they told me I was more than welcome to call and check on him, and come and visit him.  I think I might go do that, tomorrow.  I asked who I should speak with when I called, since we don't know this guy's name.  They told me to name him.  Uh oh.... I'm getting more and more attached!

"Well, I've been calling him Buddy the whole way here since I don't know what his name is, so I guess you can write that down."  I thought to myself, if we kept him, we'd have a Buddy and a Belle.  How cute!  I stayed there talking to Buddy while the assistants filled out paperwork.  I knelt down on one knee next to Buddy, and he softly laid his head on my knees and shut his eyes.  Bless this boy's heart!  He has been through a lot, and he made me feel so loved.

I told the vet that if they couldn't find a home, I would temporarily take him and find him a home.  I've considered keeping him but there's one thing that is holding me back.  I think he has part pit bull in him.  I've always been so cautious around pit bulls because of their reputation to completely turn in a heartbeat.  Especially around children and other small animals.  Which we have both of in our home.  There's no way I'm putting my family in danger, but this guy just melted my heart.  Part of me hopes we find his owner, but the other part of me feels that they no longer deserve him because of his injuries and the way roaming around looking scared.  It makes me worried that he isn't well taken care of.

Look at him, isn't he sweet looking?  Keep in mind though, he is extremely muddy and the hole in his ear is sort of showing here.  But, here's Buddy.
From Something That We Do

I'll start hunting around on Craigslist and the newspaper for a lost dog.  I'll keep you updated!

Thankful Thursday

Three things that I am especially thankful for this week:

1.  The weather is trying its hardest to turn into Fall-esque!  It's about time.  I'm a little tired of the heat index being in the low 100s on a daily basis!

2.  The building on campus that has booths where I sometimes *may* or *may not* take naps.

3.  Lunch dates with my friends when they are on campus at the same time as me.  (Hi Mia!)  It's so much fun having a half hour or so to reconnect with my friends!

9.09.2010

Thankful Thursday

Three things I am very thankful for this week:

1.  My prayer for my dad regarding school.  He's recently gone back to school, and his motivation has increased this week after he received the highest grade in his class, on a math test!  Thank you Lord for answering my prayer!

2.  Monday was a school holiday- need I say more?

3.  The rain we had yesterday.  I absolutely love when I am home and we have a rainy day.  It rained on and off throughout the day, and then it also rained last night.  Moreover, I'm thankful that when Austin brought his flute to school for the first time yesterday, it also came home without being damaged or lost!  And, I'm even more thankful that even though it rained last night, and Austin left the flute sitting on top of the car all night long, the flute was somehow not damaged.  The case is apparently (thankfully) water resistant.

Thank you!

Thank you all for your help with my missing comments button! It was a silly error on my part but I am glad to have it resolved.

So, here's a semi-funny story. Or, maybe it's more awkward than anything. I'll let you decide.

I switched bus routes this morning due to my issue described here.  So, I get on the new bus, and I'm on only one on it.  That's a first for me, but it was okay.  Being the semi-paranoid (or safety conscious) person that I am, it occurred to me that if the bus driver knew that I hadn't ever been on this route before, he could drive off to no-man's land and it might take me a couple of miles to realize he's not going where I need him to.  I told myself I was being overly "concerned" and that the bus driver is in fact not out to get me, and I decided to just sit back and enjoy my coffee.  Then, he turned and asked me this.

"Have you ever ridden this bus before?"

I wanted to say "Oh yeah, all the time.... I'll know if you take a wrong turn!  Then I'll know you're trying to kidnap me and I'll jump out the back door!"  But instead, this came out: "Nope."

I realized I was in a position to be taken advantage of, so I got a bit squirmy in my seat.  Then, ya know what he asked me???

"Do you know which way I turn up here?"

Umm... you are a bus driver..... right?  I mean, even if it is his first day, one of the very first things he should make sure he is aware of is his route, no?

"No, I don't.  I'm sorry."  He informed me that he saw a sign saying "No right turn" but there was a median in the road so he couldn't turn left even if he wanted to.  So, we can't go right, can't go left, and can't go straight.  I didn't see this sign he was talking about, but I just sat back and tried to relax.  He then called in to the dispatcher that he didn't know what to do.  I figured at that point I was safe because a kidnapper wouldn't call and ask for directions.  Anyway, turns out, that sign he saw said "No left turn," not "No right turn."

Luckily, after that "hurdle" he knew the bus route.

Maybe I found this interesting because I hadn't had my coffee yet.  Or, maybe I just find too many little circumstances "interesting."  Either way, I'm glad it's all said and done and I can go on about my day.

Have a good one!

8.31.2010

I'm back!

Hey everyone, sorry for being away for so long! School is intense this semester, so my blogging might cut down a little bit. But, it's a great outlet for me, so I certainly hope that doesn't happen too much!

My first week of classes has been pretty great....except for my blasted 7:25-making-me-leave-the-house-at-6:30-class.......grrrrr. I don't like leaving when it's dark outside, and if that's not bad enough, I have to walk to a bus stop that backs up to some thick woods that some mugger (or worse) could pop out of! After explaining my fears about being mugged (or worse) to my hubby, we decided it would be best for me to pay $60 and get a parking pass. That'll make it easier, for sure. Anyway, back to my classes...

Audiologic rehabilitation seems pretty boring so far, but that's okay. Boring equals easy, and easy equals an A. TV and American Society is pretty fun. I sometimes almost nod off in there, though. But the teacher is nice and lively, so my hour in there isn't too too bad. Next comes forensics. Oh my goodness how I love that class. I was nervous to take that class, but it's AWESOME! We're learning all about how to determine the cause of death, and we watched a documentary on the LA Coroner's Office! We watched autopsies! This sounds really disgusting, but it was actually pretty interesting. Don't judge me. After that class, I travel down the hill and across campus to Acoustics. All I can say about that class is oh shoot. Not gonna be a cake walk, that's for sure. I might end up enlisting the help of me and hubby's friend, Matt...who actually enjoys the subject! My last class of the day would be boring, if it weren't for my awesome teacher. She's a graduate student and she makes things really fun for us! She shows us youtube videos, and the way she teaches is just all around kind of quirky, making her funny for a 5:00 class. And of course, I have my online class, Diseases of Eating. Not too sure about this one yet. Trying really hard to give it the benefit of the doubt. Buuuuut....... I've taken three online, open-note, open-lecture, open-everything quizzes, and to be safe and to ensure an A, I have looked up EVERY SINGLE answer. Once I heard it in a lecture, or saw it in writing, I clicked the choice. And yet, I haven't made about a 90. Huh? So, I'd like to ask my teacher to let me review the quizzes but that is "strictly prohibited." Great. We'll see how that turns out.

On the positive side, guess what I did last night.

I......

applied.......

for...............

GRADUATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YAY! FINALLY!

Now, here's where you come in. I need prayers. Lots and lots of prayers. Why? Well, you see, my degree audit (which tells me which classes I still need) says I need 3 more classes, of which I've already taken. The computer will deny me for graduation if these are not corrected, so I emailed my advisor and she said "She'll look into it." (Translation: I'll hear from her in 4 weeks if I email her every other day and call her office every morning begging her to look at my transcripts.)

That's about it though. I just need prayers that I will graduate in December, and to complete this semester with as few gray hairs as possible!

8.12.2010

Final Decision.

I made a decision.
I WILL: graduate in December.
I WILL: take 18 hours of classes at UF. (UPDATE: it ended up being 19, for the record!)
I WILL: be miserable but only for one semester so I'll be okay...I can do anything for just a semester, right? RIGHT????
....eh, so that last one wasn't so much of a decision as it was a by-product of a decision.

In case you haven't heard the story of how I had to fight to get one of my classes accepted at UF, I'll brief you really fast. Back when my major required foreign language, before our college change, I desperately tried to enroll in American Sign Language. I always wanted to learn it, so I was bound and determined to take this course as my foreign language requirement. Imagine my disappointment when I realized it was next to impossible to get in to Dr. Sign's class. Luckily, there's a college nearby that we are aloud to transfer credits between. So, I gladly took ASL at the other college. When I returned to UF, they said "I'm sorry but you've transferred too many credits. We can't accept Sign Language from another school." I didn't know there was a limit to the number of credits transferred, so I was quite disappointed. But wait, the only reason I took it at the other school was because I couldn't get in to UF's class! And this class was required, for Pete's sake! I must protest.

After much back and forth (I'll spare you), ASL was accepted. Here's the hitch. It's accepted as a foreign language, but not necessarily as an upper level elective (Which I need so many of to graduate)...... and then when my advisor wrote me and told me how close I was to graduation, she said I needed 9 more hours of upper level electives (supposedly) because she counted ASL as an upper level elective. I'm not sure what to do now, because technically it's not an upper level elective but they are counting it as such. If they continue to count it as an upper level elective, I will graduate in December. HOWEVER, if they decide at the last minute to say "No, we're not going to count this as an upper level elective....." then I will have to stay yet another semester at UF taking one course. Anyway, I'll let you know how it turns out. As for the fall semester..... I'm in for a doozy.

Here are my classes that I'm registered for. The first three are required.
Audiologic Rehabilitation.
Audiometry
Acoustics
Skeletal forensics (I heard this was an easy elective, I hope these people weren't pulling my leg....)
TV and American Society (Again, word on the street says it's an easy elective....)
Diseases of Eating (same as above.)

I pray that I get through this semester will an A-B average, and I graduate in December so I'm not told that I need one more class.
